Care guide
Treat your bedlinen the way you'd treat a good shirt and it will live for a decade. Here's everything we tell our atelier customers in person.
First wash
Always wash a new set before the first sleep. Cold cycle, with similar colours, no detergent stronger than a mild liquid. The first wash sets the weave and removes any residual finishing. Don't skip it.
Day to day
- Machine wash cool (30°C). Mild liquid detergent. No bleach, ever.
- Tumble dry low or — better — line dry in the shade. Sun bleaches darker colours.
- Iron on low while still slightly damp for the crispest finish. Linen prefers no iron at all.
- Rotate two sets weekly. Sheets last twice as long when they aren't washed back-to-back.
Stains
Treat fresh stains with cold water and a mild stain stick within an hour. Hot water sets protein stains; bleach kills the dye and the weave. Patience beats chemistry.
Storage
Folded, in a breathable cotton bag (the one your set arrived in works), away from direct sunlight. Not in plastic — bedlinen needs to breathe.
Sateen vs Plain weave
Plain (percale) gets crisper with each wash. Sateen gets softer. Both are right; pick the one that matches how you want your bed to feel on the first night versus the hundredth.
